Teaching at KIPP
Great educators make a difference.
At KIPP St. Louis we strive to help all of our students climb the mountain to college. To do this, we need master teachers capable of inspiring each of their students to develop the knowledge and skills necessary for success in college and in life.
KIPP St. Louis is always looking for outstanding educators who enjoy teaching, love their students and will do whatever it takes to help them achieve. We believe that our educators are proving what is possible in urban education by creating revolutionary classrooms where all children learn at extremely high levels.
We give our students an intensive foundation in core academic subjects and emphasize developing knowledge and skills necessary for success in school and in life. We hold ourselves to high standards, aware that success can be achieved by all, regardless of challenging circumstances.
More time.
KIPP St. Louis teachers are in school Monday through Friday from 7:10 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with most arriving before and staying late. Many take on additional leadership roles, working as Saturday School Coordinators, Grade Level Chairs, and Content Chairs. They are available to help students with homework until 9 p.m. via school-provided cell phones. Our teachers commit to teaching some Saturday School classes and an additional three weeks during the summer.
Focus on results.
We know that success doesn't just happen—it requires a team effort of very deliberately infusing our culture into everything that we do, every day—from our instructional practices to our interactions with students to how we develop and align curriculum.
We want to ensure our students receive the best possible instruction—so KIPP St. Louis recruits and selects excellent teachers who have had significant success working with underserved populations. Our school schedule is structured to provide regular opportunities for common planning, mentoring and coaching, and robust professional development.
KIPP St. Louis's teachers are supported by Teaching Fellows. Fellows are full-time paid positions and are specifically geared for individuals who would benefit from a year of learning KIPP's instructional strategies, planning skills, and collaborative approaches. Qualified applicants typically have experience with underserved students and show promise as a future KIPP teacher of record. Fellows who make significant progress with students during the school year may apply for open teaching positions at any KIPP St. Louis school.
Whatever it takes.
To attract and retain the most talented and hardest-working teaching staff, we offer a competitive compensation/benefits package including:

"I came to KIPP because I believe that every student, even students with special education needs, should receive explicit opportunities for both academic and social growth. In non-charter public education, I was disheartened to see that for students in special education, college was not considered a viable option. At KIPP it is. I came to KIPP to ensure that all students to have an opportunity to climb the mountain to college."
